York’s kick into fog upsets Florida: LSU kicker does little to clear up playoff picture

 

While the attention of the college football world was on the shoe that was thrown 20 yards downfield, it was Cade York that most likely booted the Florida Gators from College Football Playoff Contention.

The Prosper alum nailed a 57-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining to lift the LSU Tigers to a 37-34 upset of the Gators in the Swamp on Saturday.

LSU (4-5, 4-5 Southeastern Conference) most likely dropped Florida (8-2, 8-2) out of the playoffs with the upset. The Gators fell five spots to No. 11 in the latest Associated Press College Football poll after the loss.

York kicked the winning field goal into a thick fog that rolled into Gainesville, Fla., during the second half and forced ESPN to change camera angles.

The winning drive was extended after Florida was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for toss LSU’s Kole Taylor’s shoe across the field.

York also connected on field goals from 39- and 30-yards out and was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra point attempts.

He was a Under Armour All-American at Prosper and made a 59-yard field goal during the UAAA Game. York helped Prosper reach the Class 6A, Div. II Regional Semifinals during his prep career.

LSU closes out the season against Mississippi (4-4, 4-4) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

Jordan, Utes come back against Colorado

Freshman running back Ty Jordan had two touchdowns to help the Utah Utes score 28 consecutive second half points in a 38-21 win at Colorado on Saturday.

Utah (2-2, 2-2 Pac 12) scored the final 28 points of the game to beat Colorado (3-1, 3-1) in a game played in the snow.

Jordan had 152 yards on 17 carries one week after posting 167 rushing yards and a score against Oregon State (2-4, 2-4).

The former West Mesquite star had an 18-yard touchdown that cut Colorado’s lead to 21-17 early in the third quarter. His 66-yard scoring scamper put the game out of reach as the Utes extended their lead to 35-21 with 4 minutes, 43 seconds remaining.

Jordan was the District 7-5A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.

Utah closes out the regular season at home against Washington State (1-2, 1-2) at 12:30 p.m. on FS1.

 

Trask has big game vs. LSU

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask continued his streak as one of the nation’s weekly passing leaders tossing five touchdowns in Florida’s 37-34 loss to LSU on Saturday.

Trask completed 29 of 47 passes for 474 yards.

The Manvel graduate was a perfect 3 for 3 on the final Florida drive and helped the Gators drive from their own 25 to the LSU 33 to set up a 51-yard field goal attempt with two seconds left that missed.

Trask helped Manvel to an 11-3 record as a senior and a berth in the Class 6A, Division II Area Quarterfinals.

Florida takes on No. 1 Alabama (9-0, 9-0) in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday at 7 p.m. on CBS.

 

Sanders helps OSU close out regular season with rout of Baylor

Redshirt sophomore quarterback threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns to help Oklahoma state close out the regular season with a 42-3 rout at Baylor.

Sanders completed 20 of 30 passes for Oklahoma State (7-3, 6-3 Big 12) against Baylor (2-7, 2-7).

The former Denton Ryan star threw passes of 75-, 15- and 40-yards to Dillon Stoner in the first 16 minutes of game play.

Sanders threw for 3,845 yards and 54 touchdowns as a senior at Ryan. 

 

Darden breaks more records at UNT

Jaelon Darden broke two more records in what may have been his final home game, a 45-43 win over UTEP on Friday.

The former Houston Eisenhower star had eight catches for 173 yards and four touchdowns to help North Texas (4-5, 3-4 Conference USA) beat UTEP (3-5, 0-4) on Friday.

Darden set a new school records for receptions and receiving yards against UTEP. He also holds the school record for career receiving touchdowns (38) and receiving touchdowns in a season (19).

His fourth and final touchdown reception from Austin Aune (Argyle) was from 50-yards out and extended the Mean Green lead to 45-28 with less than nine minutes remaining.

Darden played quarterback at Eisenhower earning a District 18-6A First Team honor as a junior and a District 16-6A Honorable Mention as a senior.

UNT will play Appalachian State (8-3, 6-2 Sun Belt) in the Myrtle Beach Bowl at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 21.
