Southlake Carroll Levels Keller with Dragon Fire
James Lehman rushed for 133 yards on 22 carries and R.J. Maryland caught three touchdown passes from QB Kaden Anderson as Southlake Carroll, undefeated at 6-0, withstood an early fight from Keller (5-1) before cruising to a 49-13 victory on Friday afternoon.
Keller Takes an Early Lead
Keller’s Seth Henry caught a pass for QB Tre Guerra pass raced 77 yards to the Dragons seven-yard line on Keller’s first play from scrimmage. Guerra then found Amarion Henry on the next play for a touchdown to put Keller up early at 6-0.
Carroll answered back with a six-play, 43-yard scoring drive. RB Owen Allen carried the ball on every play, culminating in a five-yard touchdown run. Keller regained the lead 13-7 when Guerra connected with Henry for an 82-yard touchdown pass.
Allen later exited the game with an injury late in the first quarter and did not return to the game.
Carroll took over the game with a 21-point explosion in the second quarter. Lehman scored on an 8-yard run to give Carroll a 14-13 just seconds into the quarter. Anderson found Maryland for a 32-yard touchdown pass and Lehman again added a 1-yard touchdown to put Carroll up 28-13 at halftime.
Anderson passed for three touchdowns in the second half to turn the game into a blowout. He found Maryland again on touchdown throws in the red zone of 16 and 11 yards. WR Landon Samson caught an Anderson pass and broke away for a 74-yard touchdown pass to close out the scoring for the Dragons.
Southlake Carrol hosts Keller Central under the lights next Friday night, while Keller travels to play V.R. Eaton in Fort Worth.
