4A Team of the Week: Krum Bobcats

Krum certainly challenged itself in its final non-district game. The Bobcats hit the road to face Paradise, No. 5 team in 3A Division I. On paper, the Bobcats weren’t given much of a chance.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football listed Paradise as 30-point favorites. Krum also entered the game off the back of two consecutive losses.

None of that mattered last Friday. Quarterback Casen Payne threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns, while Carter Hollingshead rushed for 94 yards and a score to help Krum build a 28-21 lead heading into the final quarter.

Paradise eventually cut the deficit to one with a rushing touchdown with under two minutes to go, but the Bobcats stopped the ensuing two-point conversion to secure a thrilling 28-27 victory.

“I was most impressed with our kids’ focus and how fast they played for four quarters.  We have been hit by the injury bug and had a lot of kids step up to fill some important roles,” Krum head coach Chris Taber said. “Anytime you can beat a good team on the road it is a big deal.  This was a much needed win to get us back on track.”

In the receiving corps, Aaron Criss had a monster game with six catches for 181 yards and two touchdowns while Braylon Distasio had six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The win gives the Bobcats plenty of momentum heading into their bye week. They’ll return to action on Oct. 9 with their district opener at home against Sanger.
