Celina Gets Key District Win Over Aubrey

Celina wins big

The Celina Bobcats accomplished two things in Friday night’s game with Aubrey: they moved a step closer to a district championship and got a little revenge for last season’s loss to the Chaparrals. The Bobcats cruised to a 49-14 victory over Aubrey in Celina.

Mission Accomplished

Aubrey got the opening kickoff, but they fumbled on the drive. The Bobcats had great field position.  This allowed junior quarterback Noah Bentley to hit Collin Urich for a 10-yard touchdown pass.

After getting a stop on the Chaparrals, Bentley found Brower Nickel in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0 early in the first quarter.

Aubrey tried to keep it close in the 1st quarter. On their next possession, Braylon Colgrove scored on a 62-yard run to cut the lead to 14-7.  After that, it was all Celina.

Bentley threw another touchdown pass to Nickel, and the Bobcats scored three on the ground on their way to a commanding 42-14 lead at halftime.

A quick second half saw Bentley throw one more touchdown pass for a total of four on the night.  The Oklahoma baseball commit had one of his best games of the year in a must-win district game for the Bobcats.

Celina also had a big contribution from junior running back Gabe Gayton, who rushed for over 200 yards and a touchdown. The Aubrey offense was led by Colgrove who scored the only two touchdowns of the night for the Chaps.

The Bobcats travel to Krum next Friday. Meanwhile, Aubrey looks to get their first district win at home against Sanger next week.
