Frisco Wakeland came into Friday night’s game with Denton High ready to take care of business. The Wolverines knew a win would lock them into the third seed for the playoffs. On Senior Night at Kuykendall Stadium, The Wolverines didn’t disappoint, thrashing Denton 56-0.

Wakeland got on the board early, as quarterback Brennan Myer hit Dylan Snead on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Later in the first quarter, Myer found his big Tight End, Tripp Riordan, for a 15-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, Myer found senior Cody Johnson for an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wolverine blowout win if you didn’t mention running back Jared White. White was great again, finishing with 140 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. He now has 1485 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season.

Wakeland also had big touchdown runs from sophomore Cooper Snyder and senior Noah Mangum. The Wolverines led 42-0 at halftime and never looked back.

The Wakeland defense dominated once again, holding Denton to 195 yards of total offense and forcing three turnovers. This is the second shutout for the Wolverines this season. Several different players contributed on defense to preserve the shutout.

The Wolverines (7-2, 6-2) now go into their bye week with playoff preparation on their mind. Wakeland opens the playoffs against Dallas Woodrow Wilson in two weeks.

Wilson has had a solid season as they are 7-2 with one game remaining. Their only losses were a close one to North Forney and district champ Lancaster. It will be a great test for the Wolverines as they will have to travel to Dallas for the bi-district matchup.

After a successful regular season, Wakeland wants to keep playing as long as they can.

Denton (1-8, 1-6) will look to end the season on a high note, as they take on Frisco Centennial next Friday night.
