Melissa High School Just Opened A Big, Big Stadium
We all know everything is bigger and better in Texas. These sentiments definitely extend to Texas HS Football.
As an embodiment of how legendary our high school competitors are, Melissa High School has erected a brand-new, state-of-the-art football stadium and indoor practice facility.
The price tag: a hefty $35 million.
Located an hour northeast of Dallas, Melissa sits about 40 miles from the dead center of the state’s third-biggest city. Melissa is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the state, boasting a population of 19,397 on the 2022 U.S. Census—five times more than its population in 2010.
As a result, the Cardinals have just moved up to the 5A-D2 level. The indoor practice facility was completed first, followed by the stadium, which will be ready for the Cardinal’s first preseason game on September 1.
The school only has 1,300 students, but the stadium has 10,000 seats.

Last season, Melissa lost both of their first two games, before managing 11 straight wins, including a 7-0 mark in district play. They eventually lost to South Oak Cliff in a comeback victory in the Class 5A Division II quarterfinals. The team hasn’t won a state championship in 11 years; their division at the time was one of the smallest classifications (2A Division I).
