DeSoto Finally Gets Elusive Win Against Allen

They may have the superior stadium, but the Allen Eagles had no answers for the visiting DeSoto Eagles. In a battle of UIL high school powerhouses, the defending Texas state football champs walloped the Allen 39-7 on Friday at Eagle Stadium for the 23rd game of the Tom Landry Classic. In five contests, it was the first time the visiting Eagles took the victory; the team’s head-to-head is now a 4-1 advantage favoring Allen.

With just over seven minutes left in the opening quarter, the home Eagles were ahead by one point. It was the only points scored for Allen, with the visiting Eagles rallying off 32 consecutive points in the contest. Senior quarterback Darius Bailey, a Houston State commit, threw for 230 yards and tossed three touchdown passes, completing a remarkable 73.9% of his passes.

DeSoto’s defense was unrelenting, tallying four sacks, and holding Allen to only double-digit yardage in the first half and 100 additional yards of total offense in the second half.

Not all was peaches and cream for the visiting Eagles. Uncommitted 4-star running back Deondrae “Tiger” Rider Jr. was carted off in the second quarter with an apparent arm injury. Seniors Jaden Trawick and Marvin Duffey were quick to step in, tallying 168 combined yards and a score.

Allen will look to righten the ship against Houston King on Friday. DeSoto will have a bye next week, before taking on South Oak Cliff in Week 3.

After week 2, we publish our first 6A rankings, and it will be a conversation between DeSoto and Duncanville for the #1 spot. The defending 6A DII Champs look great, and whoever wins the week 8 showdown between Desoto and Duncanville, if they both come in undefeated, will likely go into the playoffs as the top or one of the top-ranked teams in the country.
