Midway Coach Shane Anderson Placed On Administrative Leave

Midway Independent School District announced to football families that head football coach Shane Anderson would temporarily step away from the program. The district announced it will look into a “non-student-related personal situation.” He is currently on paid administrative leave while the school investigates the unknown matter.

“While I understand that a notice like this may cause concerns or assumptions, please know that the District is taking action to support our students and staff in the best interest of all concerned,” the statement read.

The statement also pled for the community to support coaches as they guide their team to stay focused on their season.

Anderson is in his third season as the head coach of the Panthers and has posted a putrid 4-21 record through the span. An alumnus of Connally High School, he spent six seasons as the Cadets head coach, including a 12-1 season in 2019. In total, he has 18 years of coaching experience collectively. Throughout Central Texas, he is known as a devoted family man, and has two children.

Despite a winless non-district start, the Panthers are currently fourth in the district at 2-1. As the investigation proceeds, assistant head coach/linebackers coach Esrom Martinez has stepped in for interim head coaching duties.

Midway High School and Midway Independent School District refuses to comment on Anderson’s status.
