Rockwall nearly had them.

Despite the Yellowjackets rally from a 38-28 deficit in the third quarter, taking the lead 42-38 with 3:34 left on the clock, the Cavaliers triumphed over their Class 6A opponent 45-42 at Cavalier Stadium on Friday night.

The LT win effectively avenged their 59-35 defeat against Rockwall during their last meeting in 2021.

The Yellowjackets got out to a hot start, grabbing a 17-7 first-quarter advantage, backed by quarterback Landyn Locke connecting on seven straight passes, including a 29-yard touchdown to Triston Gooch.

The good times weren’t meant to last, unfortunately, with Locke knocked out of the game with an injured knee. He finished the contest early with 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Lake Travis concluded the game with an 85-yard scoring drive that accumulated in quarterback Chaston Ditta striking Patrick Colby for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining.

Rockwall backup Brent Ricker performed admirably on a pair of scoring drives. With the ball back on their 13-yard line with only 18 seconds remaining, the team got to the 51-yard line, where a field goal came up tragically short.

With 222 rushing yards, Rockwall has now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in 15 straight contests.

Rockwall looks to bounce back from the heartbreak at Lewisville on Friday. Lake Travis will continue their winning ways against Midland Legacy.
