Dekaney & Texas Commit Nick Townsend Shows Out In Victory

A four-star Texas Longhorns commit may have had the performance of Week 5 in the Lone Star State.

The nation’s no. 3 tight end Nick Townsend rushed for four touchdowns and threw for a fifth as starting quarterback for Dekaney, blanking Aldine by a score of 55-0. Competing on the road, the Wildcats got their first victory of the season; it was their ninth straight win over the Mustangs.

Although he won’t be calling the snap for the Burnt Orange (that honor, obviously, goes to Arch Manning next year), Townsend is a versatile athlete and joins a Longhorns 2025 class that ranks top five nationally.

As a junior, Townsend caught 18 passes for 431 yards and seven touchdowns at his skill position. On the defensive side of the ball, he accounted for 52 solo tackles, eight sacks, and three fumble recoveries serving as an edge rusher. Besides quarterback, tight end, and edge rusher, he has also competed at halfback and linebacker.

Townsend decided to stay local, choosing Texas over Alabama, USC, and Texas A&M.

Ahead of his commitment decision, he explained his love of the Longhorns to Rivals:

“Just coach Sarkisian, he’s very down to earth, very relatable. Honestly, his life story is crazy. They’d let me play on both sides of the ball. If one doesn’t work, I can move to the other side. And they play in the SEC now.”

Townsend will next take the gridiron at home against Westfield on Friday at 7 pm, where Dekaney will look for their second victory of the season.
