1A Team of the Week: Perrin-Whitt Pirates
Across 2022 and 2023, Perrin-Whitt won five games combined. This season, the Pirates are already 5-0.
They scored their most notable victory to date this past Thursday when they took down Union Hill 76-64. It was just Union Hill’s second regular season loss dating back to October 2021.
“It means a lot to get to 5-0 and it is a big win for the kids as well as the community, who always comes out to support,” Perrin-Whitt head coach Kevin Loyd said. “The kids have been working hard and taking pride in what they do. They show up each week trying to be better than the week before.”
Cameron Tune and Cole Keeney each had massive nights on the ground for the Pirates. Tune had 215 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while Keeney rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.
Perrin-Whitt threw the ball just 10 times, but the Pirates did find some success through the air. Tune, Noah Morris, and Jackson Gray all had touchdown catches.
Keeney also had an interception defensively.
The Pirates are certainly having to earn their undefeated record. Their testing schedule continues this week as they host fellow 5-0 side Saint Jo at 7:30 on Friday.
