ARGYLE- In a battle of 4A DI state contenders, #8 Abilene Wylie travels to #4 Argyle in a rematch of 2016’s Regional Semifinal matchup. This game is turning into be quite a rivalry as it seems like each time these teams meet up, something is on the line. The Bulldogs are trying to avoid dropping their second straight game. As for Argyle, the Eagles trying to avenge last year’s playoff loss at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Abilene Wylie is coming off a disappointing loss to Denison in week 3, 24-23. Quarterback Tyler O’Connor will be under center for the Bulldogs after getting his first varsity start on Friday. O’Connor completed 18-34 for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cason Grant will be in the backfield behind O’Connor at running back. The senior utility man carried the game to final minute against Denison with 14 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. If Argyle is going to win, they are going to have to slow down the star runner.
On the other sideline, Argyle is coming off an impressive road win against Celina 49-34. Quarterback Jon Copeland led the Eagle offense with 331 yards passing on 16 completions and 3 touchdowns. Two of the touchdowns were to stand out receiver Wes McCollum. The key for a Wylie victory is to interrupt the air attack. This should be another exciting display of this newly born rivalry.
