Clearlogo4820503_lg_1Among the second-round matchups that are pitting two high caliber teams against one another this weekend, Grapevine and Aledo should provide a riveting competition.

Grapevine (10-1) will face Aledo (11-0) this Friday at Saginaw High School in a Class 5A DII Region I area playoff game.

Aledo hopes that this will be another mark on the checklist in their pursuit for a sixth state title since 2009. Grapevine on the other hand is just the team that could give Aledo a run for their money after only losing one game this season.

Grapevine comes into this game presented with an opportunity to knock out a 5A powerhouse and the Mustangs are more than willing to do it behind a balanced offense and defense that has held opponents to an average of 15 points per game.

Junior quarterback Alan Bowman has garnered valuable experience, already with 31 starts under his belt, and thrown for 3,050 yards and 41 touchdown passes this season. Running back Zach Wolf is part of a two-back option out the backfield as he has rushed for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. His running mate Roshawn Prear, accounts for 609 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. These two look to attack the frontline of Aledo which has been one of the more physical defenses throughout the 5A classification and held opponents to 18 points per game.

Aledo is no pushover on offense though as it’s been noted how deep the talent runs at each position.
Quarterback Dillon Davis rivals Bowman’s stats with 2,881 yards and 36 touchdowns. Perhaps less than Bowman’s but when you have a running game led by a three-headed monster what can you expect?

Jase McClellan has 913 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns and Michael Jordan comes in with 851 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Rounding up the bunch is Donnie Evans who rumbles in with 711 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Needless to say that both teams will rely heavily on the play of their defenses as the scoreboard is sure to light up with both teams having a potent offense.

The winner will move on to the next round in the Region I semifinals where they will face the winner of the Canutillo and Abilene Cooper game.
