Aledo Sets the Tone Early In Win Over Lone Star

One of the most anticipated high school games in week two lived up to the hype as Aledo beats Frisco Lone Star 45-35 in an exciting game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

Quick Strike

Aledo quieted the Lone Star crowd on the opening kickoff as Ryan Williams returned it 81 yards for a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle. But late in the first quarter, Aledo increased their lead with a 15-yard touchdown run from Davhon Keys.

Lone Star finally got on the board after a long drive midway through the second quarter with an Ashton Jeanty touchdown run.

Aledo ended the first half on a strong note with two touchdowns, including a 75-yard pass from QB Brayden Flower Nicolosi to Brian Fleming. The Bearcats led 28-7 at halftime.

Lone Star Comes Out Fighting

Lone Star didn’t lay down and came out with a vengeance in the third quarter. Oklahoma State commit QB Garrett Rangel, threw 2 touchdown passes, one to running back Jeanty. Jeanty also scored one on the ground. The Rangers outscored Aledo 21-3 in the third quarter to set up an exciting fourth.

The Bearcats answered in their first drive of the 4th as Flower-Nicolosi led them on an 86 yard drive, capped off by a 55-yard touchdown pass and a 38-28 lead.

Lone Star scored again in the 4th quarter, this time a 49 yard run from Jeanty. With a three-point game, the Rangers got a big stop and got the ball back late in the fourth, with a chance to take the lead. But things didn’t go as planned.

Rangel goes down

Rangel had to leave the game with an injured knee.  Backup Gabriel Barrientes came in and looked good, completing his first three passes, but Jeanty fumbled after a long reception and Aledo recovered.

Rangel’s status for next week and beyond is unknown.

The Bearcats iced the game on the very next play, as Ryan Williams had a 67-yard touchdown run.

Prior to the fumble, Jeanty had an outstanding game, with 239 total yards and 4 touchdowns. Aledo had big nights from QB Flower-Nicolosi, who threw three touchdowns and tight end Jason Llewellyn, an OU commit according to 247sports, who had 89 yards and a touchdown.

Next up…

Lone Star (1-1) starts district next week against Frisco Heritage. Aledo (2-0) takes on Fort Worth Arlington Heights.
