Dating back to 2007, Aledo’s district win streak has now extended to 125 victories.
It was nearly broken on Friday night.
After playing catch-up for most of the night, the Bearcats defeated Richland in overtime 48-42 at Tim Buchanan Stadium on October 25 in a District 3-5A Division I showdown.
Richland led 28-21 at halftime, including a lead of 14 points, bolstered by their hurry-up offense. Twice, Aledo was down by two scores, before finally taking their first lead with 3:48 left after scoring three straight touchdowns.
The Royals answered back, connecting with Deon Jones when he dove into the left side of the end zone on fourth-and-16 for a 30-yard tying score.
In a very rare overtime situation at Aledo’s home, the Bearcat defense made a strong stance, stopping Richland on third and fourth downs from the 5 yard line. When Aledo fielded the ball, the team drove down field, finishing the contest when Raycine Guillory Jr. went left for an eight yard winning score. Guillory finished the night with six touchdowns and 263 yards on 32 rushes, bolstered by a strong offensive line spearheaded by center Chase Anderson, left guard Payton Anderson, and right guard Ryan Campbell.
Aledo will try to extend their win streak to 126 against Azle on November 1. Following a bye week, Richland will look to bounce back, also against Azle, on November 8.
