The Friday night lights won’t shine in Texas for several months, but anticipation is already building for the gridiron illumination. According to the Dallas Morning News, Allen will host Cedar Hill in the season opener – a Dallas slugfest as part of the Tom Landry classic.
Despite being responsible for nearly half of the last 11 state titles in the DFW area, both teams finished below expectation in 2016, petering out in the playoffs after boasting winning seasons. The Eagles hold a 4-0 edge, last beating the Longhorns in 2013. The meeting will mark the second season of Allen coach Terry Gambill and first with former defensive coordinator turned HC Carlos Lynn for Cedar Hill.
Both have combined for seven state titles in a little over a decade. The Longhorns dropped their first contest last season against Bishop Gorman; the Eagles haven’t lost their opener since a 2006 defeat against Garland.
Lovejoy and Argyle are second on the bill, and will compete the first Saturday of the month.
