When Euless Trinity staved off district opponent Flower Mound Marcus to claim a berth in the Division I Class 6A playoffs, it came with a reward the would alarm any team in the state.

Euless Trinity has drawn a first-round matchup with what might be considered the 6A DI favorite and the elitists of high school football in Texas, the Allen Eagles. Allen will be hosting Trinity in their humble $60 million abode and looking to check off their 11th straight victory after practically breezing through any and all opposition this season. The No.2 team in our power rankings which could come with a legitimate argument for being No.1 has the image of hanging their fourth championship banner in five years vividly playing out in their heads.

Of course, head coach Terry Gambill has that familiar image in his head as he was the Allen defensive coordinator in 2009 when the Eagles won their first state title but this time around looks to do it as the head honcho of the program. Allen and Trinity are no strangers to each other in the playoffs, dating back to 2008 where they met each other for the first time. The most recent matchup came in 2014, when Allen defeated Trinity 30-27 and would go on to win a remarkable third straight title just a few rounds later.

Euless Trinity, which some may consider the underdog in this game,  was considered one of the top teams in the state earlier this year but hit a declining slope when they dropped three district games, one to the perennial contenders in Southlake Carroll and the other two coming to Byron Nelson and Hebron.

Now with a few personnel changes on both sides of the ball, Trinity is once again looking like the Trinity opponents are accustomed to with a swarming defense and ground game led by Courage Keihn and Greg Garner. Allen has a defense that has only allowed an average of 13 points per game this season and offensively they’re led by quarterback Mitchell Jonke who has passed for 17774 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Despite what this matchup presents on paper and through their records, this game can easily come down to the wire with the past history these two teams have with one another. This game should provide some big moments and plays that entail a playoff season as both teams look to advance to the next round.
