Allen Loses Star Quarterback After Racial Message
Four-star recruit and the top uncommitted Class of 2024 quarterback standout Mike Hawkins Jr. will transfer from Allen. Hawkins, along with his brother Maliek, a sophomore DB, have unenrolled and plan on transferring from the state’s largest high school after his family home was vandalized with racist messages. According to the Allen Police Department’s incident report, the painted black letters measured over a foot tall.
Mike Hawkins Sr. — the young mans father and a former NFL player and Oklahoma Sooners standout — has lived in Allen since 2011, but is moving his family after discovering the racial epithet spray painted on the house’s garage door.
“These are kids that give so much of their lives to represent this community,” Allen athletic director and head football coach Lee Wiginton told the Dallas Morning News.
Hawkins Jr. is only one of three four-star caliber quarterbacks in our state. The others include The Woodlands junior quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (Wisconsin commit) and Willis junior quarterback Derek Lagway Jr. (Florida commit).
Over 25 games, Hawkins Jr. led the Eagles with 4,840 yards, 41 touchdowns, as well as 1,094 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground. He is currently considering offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, NC State, and Oklahoma.
