Anna’s Dramatic Victory Stuns Panther Creek
On Friday night, the Anna Coyotes and Panther Creek Panthers met in round 3 of the playoffs at the Star in Frisco.
Panther Creek Panthers
Quarterback Braxton Roberts led his team through the air, completing 32 of 54 passes for 308 yards, throwing for 2 touchdowns, and rushing for 46 yards and a touchdown. Roberts connected with Miles Meldrum on 10 receptions for 110 yards and Cristian Trickett, whose 4 catches for 83 yards put him in the end zone twice. Roberts also found Parker Ord, who caught 6 passes for 44 yards, Seth Jackson, who snagged 5 passes for 36 yards, and Ace Taylor, who had 7 receptions for 35 yards. Despite major success and dominance through the air, the Panthers struggled with the run game as Sentel Simpson rushed for 37 yards on 10 carries, and Seth Jackson rushed for 7 yards on 6 carries.
Anna Coyotes
Quarterback Ziondre Williams completed 15 of 21 passes for 243 yards, threw for 3 touchdowns, and rushed for 33 yards, finding the end zone once on the ground. Williams connected with receivers Jacob Emmers, who caught 6 passes for 169 yards, scoring 3 touchdowns, and Sean Steens, who had 7 receptions for 56 yards. While the passing game succeeded throughout the night, the ground game proved effective as Edward Chumley rushed for 148 yards on 16 carries, scoring 2 touchdowns.
This game went back and forth all night long, and as the Panthers took the lead with a minute to go, the Coyotes pushed their way down the field with only seconds remaining on the clock. With time running out, Anna quarterback Ziondre Williams connected with Jacob Emmers on a 35-yard bomb to win the game.
Anna stuns Panther Creek 42-38.
Next week, Anna will face another challenge as they go up against Stephenville, who is coming off a big win after taking down powerhouse Celina in a 7-3 win. Stephenville is 11-2 this season and has a dominant defense, making it tough for teams to run on them.
