2A Team of the Week: New Home Leopards
New Home and Sunray traded the lead four times in their back-and-forth area round matchup.
As the clock ticked towards one minute remaining, New Home was in search of the final lead change, trailing 21-14.
And with the game on the line, the Leopards went with some trickeration.
Running back Logan Addison took a direct snap from a wildcat formation and rolled right. But instead of looking to run the ball in, he lobbed it towards Brody Emert, who secured it for a five-yard Leopard touchdown.
But New Home wasn’t done yet.
The Leopards made the gutsy decision to go for two and it paid off as Addison flipped the ball to receiver Brady Brown, who found Kaden Gray for the two-point conversion.
Emert had a huge night in the receiving game, finishing with 117 receiving yards and all three New Home touchdowns. Meanwhile, Addison was a massive thorn in Sunray’s side as well as he rushed for 170 yards on 28 carries.
After dropping down to six-man football in 1984, New Home switched back to 11-man football in 2018. This win over Sunray marks the first time the Leopards have advanced to the third round of playoffs as an 11-man squad.
Next up on the schedule for New Home is a trip to Floydada to take on Clarendon for a spot in the regional final.
