When Matt Rhule was hired by Baylor in December, the Bears only had commit in their 2017 class. With National Signing Day less than two weeks away, Baylor is closing out the 2017 recruiting cycle with a flurry.
After picking up a commitment from Ashton Young of Temple earlier this week, the Bears picked up five more commitments from players both and in and out of the Lone Star State.
Mansfield Lake Ridge linebacker Bryson Jackson announced a flip in his commitment from Minnesota to Baylor. The senior linebacker finished last season with 83 tackles, 13 QB hurries and seven sacks. He becomes the second linebacker commit this week after La Porte’s Terrel Bernard committed to the Bears.
Southlake Carroll offensive lineman Henry Klinge also announced his commitment to Baylor on Sunday. The 6-6, 305-pound guard had offers from Virginia, Houston, and North Texas and is the fourth Texas offensive lineman in the 2017 class.
Allen defensive lineman Cole Maxwell also announced his commitment to the Bears. He was originally committed to New Mexico for baseball, but received his first offer to play football on Saturday, per Colt Barber. At 6-5, 230 pounds, Maxwell is one of three defensive line commits to the Bears.
The Bears also got two more recruits from outside of Texas on Sunday: Defensive lineman Rob Saulin of New Jersey and offensive lineman Khalil Keith from Alabama.
With the addition of these commitments, Baylor now has 19 commitments for 2017. It’s quite the turnaround for the Bears given where they were in terms of recruiting a few months ago.
