Best Six-Man Player of All-Time is Transfering
We are working on an article listing the best Texas high school football players of all time. The usuals come to mind, like Ken Hall, Kyler Murray, and Johnathan Gray. But, one name we’ve been considering placing somewhere on the list, and perhaps an unlikely one, is current high school junior Grayson Rigdon.
Sure, Rigdon has played six-man football, and comparing six-man players to 11-man players is hard. Six-man is, in many ways, a very different game. However, Rigdon has led his teams to three straight state titles, winning the MVP in all three championship games and setting all sorts of records along the way, like the most touchdowns scored in UIL championship games history. While breaking all sorts of rushing and touchdown records, he is also one of the best defensive players in six-man football history.
Now, arguably the greatest six-man football player of all time is transferring.
Rigdon is leaving Benjamin. He helped lead the Benjamin Mustangs to back-to-back state titles after leading Strawn to a title as a freshman. As of the publication of this article, Rigdon has not announced where he is transferring to. He did commit to Air Force and could be looking to get experience in 11-man football. Also worth noting, his head coach at Benjamin, Nathan Hayes, has left the program to become the head coach and athletic director for the Baird Bears.
Wherever Rigdon ends up, they will be an immediate state championship contender. And, as one of the nation’s leading scorers on the basketball court, should he decide to also play basketball his senior season, he’ll make that team an immediate contender to win a state title in basketball.
