Whitesboro has a knack for peaking in November. Despite being 14-point underdogs to Jim Ned last Friday, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the Bearcats pulled the upset over the Indians in a 35-34 nailbiter.
Even more impressive, Whitesboro overcame a 21-7 second quarter deficit to secure the victory.
Karter Sluder did it all for the Bearcats on the night. He rushed for 52 yards and two touchdowns, caught four passes for 108 yards, and finished with 19 total tackles defensively. It was his one-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes to go that ended up being the difference in the game.

How it’s going ➡️
We started this in 2021 and we are still doing it 2023. It’s truly not about winning the game, it’s about getting another week TOGETHER! #WeOverMe23 🥜🥜🥜🥜 pic.twitter.com/KZwZDOwQYg
Elsewhere offensively, quarterback Clay Hermes threw for 255 yards and three scores, while Brett Donaldson had eight catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Sluder and sophomores Will McCoy and Jose Trevino all had interceptions defensively.
Whitesboro has certainly been battle tested this year and that will give the Bearcats confidence as they’ll face another tall task in 10-1 Bushland this Thursday in the area round. That game will kick off at 6:00 in Vernon.
