The Big Spring Steers have found their new coach. According to the Big Spring Herald, Junction head coach Mitch McLemore has been named the new head coach and athletic director of the school.
McLemore is replacing Clint Finley, who resigned after just one season. The Steers went 0-9 in 2016. It’s a big jump for McLemore as he heads from a 2A to a 4A school.
In his three seasons at Junction, McLemore led his team to three straight playoff berths. The Eagles advanced to the area round of the state playoffs in 2A Division I before getting knocked out by the Refugio Bobcats, who went on to win the state championship. The Eagles had made the area round in 2015 and lost in the bi-district round in 2014.
Per Jake Gadon of KOSA-TV, Big Spring ISD still has to approve the hire at the next Board of Education Meeting.
