Well, one of Texas’s main targets is off the board. Brandon Harris will use his graduate transfer year with the Tarheels.

This is a difficult situation for the Longhorns, who already have two solid quarterbacks in Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger. There are only two problems with this situation – they’re young (Ehlinger has zero experience at the college level), and they’re the only two quarterbacks on the roster.
Anything can happen in a college football season, and only having two quarterbacks is a risk that Tom Herman cannot afford in his first season at the helm. Therefore, the Longhorns have reportedly reached out to Notre Dame grad transfer Malik Zaire.

Texas is fairly late on this one, Wisconsin has reportedly been courting Zaire for a while now. Still, the Longhorns desperately need this transfer.
Everything could end up fine, Buechele could have another good year and not get hurt, or Ehlinger could come in and perform admirably. You just can’t leave that up to chance. If Texas doesn’t land Zaire or another quarterback, they might be in a little trouble.
