District 7-6A is seen as one of the toughest in the state with perennial title contenders Cedar Hill and DeSoto. Those two aforementioned schools combined for 56 football signees and an even 28 for both the Longhorns and the Eagles, which set school records of their own.

For DeSoto, those 28 signees will go down in history as being the first senior class to deliver that elusive state championship that the city has been chasing for so long. Highlighting the class was QB Shawn Robinson, who is already enrolled at TCU, but came back to the DeSoto campus for signing day. The Eagles also sent two receivers to Colorado in K.D. Nixon and Laviska Shenault Jr. Offensive tackle Xavier Newman will continue just down I-35 at Baylor, as new Bears Head Coach Matt Rhule made an impression on him.

Cedar Hill matched their rivals with 28 of their own. The Longhorns are sending QB Avery Davis to Notre Dame, wide receiver Camron Buckley heads to College Station to play for the Aggies and standout Charleston Rambo standout will continue his play at Oklahoma.

Looking back on this senior class, there was a two-pronged approach that made it special for the Longhorns this past season.

“First, (former head coach) Joey McGuire saw this class way back in eighth grade and told us as assistant coaches, ‘Guys, we’ve got a good class coming'”, said Cedar Hill assistant coach Calvin Ruzicka, “he was right on the money from an athletic standpoint.”

Ruzicka, who is also the school’s recruiting coordinator, continued.

“The biggest thing though was that they took care of their grades. We had 64 seniors in our football program and of those 64, the team average was a 3.0 and a 20 on the ACT,” he said, “That plays such a huge role because when you have that many kids that are eligible, it makes my job easier about trying to sell them to a school that this is a kid who is qualified.”

The amazing thing about these two schools combining for all these players is that many of them will be playing at Power 5 conference schools.

While these two are rivals, they still have lots of respect for what the other school does. Cedar Hill and DeSoto each signed a record number of kids, but DeSoto will be perfectly fine with that, since they are the reigning 6A champions.
