On Saturday night, September 9th, 2023, their was an anticipated battle in Cypress, TX, The Cy-Fair Bobcats (2-1) vs. The Cy-Woods Wildcats (2-1). These are two of the best teams in Cypress, with some serious talent on both teams. Cy-Woods has two competent quarterbacks. #11 Aiden Horton has the better arm and passing style, and #14 Darien Rogers is more athletic and a better run-and-gun quarterback. Cy-Fair has the University of Texas commit #3 Trey Owens. He is an orthodox quarterback who is calm in the pocket, can make all kinds of throws in any situation, and has a mean right arm.
Kickoff Time! In the 1st five minutes, Cy-Fair’s running back #34 Jamel Nickerson rushed in for a five-yard touchdown. Before the end of the 1st quarter, Cy-Woods managed to get on the board with a field goal, making the score 7-3 with Cy-Fair leading. In the 2nd quarter, Jamel Nickerson rushed in for 11 yards for another touchdown. Jamel might be small, but he was making a statement to Cy-Wood’s defense to not underestimate the little guy. Cy-Wood could not score a touchdown until the last minute in the 3rd quarter. The two Cy-Woods quarterbacks did a trick play that resulted in a short pass to wide receiver #13 Ty Cogdill for their 1st touchdown of the night. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 27-11.
During the fourth quarter, Cy-Fair and Cy-Woods scored two touchdowns each, making the final score of the game 41-25, continuing Cy-Fair’s win streak. Jamel Nickerson went off scoring a total of four touchdowns throughout the game. Jamel could not be stopped because of his size. He can shake off most tackles by just running low, and his speed does the rest of the work. With no surprise, Trey Owens did a great job leading his team to a victory, passing for 339 yards and two touchdown passes. If Cy-Fair continues to play this effectively, I am curious to see how great their playoff run will be.
The Cy-Fair Bobcats have an upcoming bye week, but The Cy-Woods Wildcats have an upcoming district game against The Cy-Ranch Mustangs (2-1) next Friday night.
