Cy-Woods Defeats Langham Creek 38-21 in District Battle

On Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, the Cy-Woods Wildcats (4-0) faced off against the Langham Creek Lobos (3-1) in a crucial midseason district matchup. With both teams vying for playoff spots, the stakes were high in this battle of top division contenders.

1st Half

In the opening quarter, Langham Creek kicked off to Cy-Woods, and the Wildcats capitalized with a 24-yard field goal. The Lobos responded with a strong drive, capped by running back Daymond Ruiz’s 3-yard rushing touchdown, giving Langham Creek a 7-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Cy-Woods struggled offensively as Langham Creek’s defense forced a three-and-out, ending the first quarter.

The second quarter started with both defenses holding firm. However, Langham Creek broke through when Ruiz scored his second touchdown on a 15-yard rush. Cy-Woods finally found their rhythm with two minutes left in the half when quarterback Darien Rogers connected with wide receiver Andrew Castillo for a long pass. Rogers then threw an 8-yard touchdown to wide receiver Ty Cogdill, closing the gap to 14-10 by halftime with Langham Creek still in the lead.

2nd Half

In the 3rd quarter, Cy-Woods kicked off to Langham Creek but quickly forced a three-and-out. Quarterback Darien Rogers then threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Aiden Whitehead, giving Cy-Woods its first lead of the game. The Wildcats’ defense forced another three-and-out, but a fumble returned possession to Langham Creek. Daymond Ruiz capitalized by scoring his third touchdown on a 24-yard run. However, Cy-Woods quickly regained the lead after Rogers connected with Cogdill again for a 27-yard touchdown, ending the 3rd quarter with Cy-Woods leading 24-21.

4th Quarter

In the 4th quarter, Langham Creek attempted to shift momentum but was forced to punt after reaching midfield. Cy-Woods punt returner Aj Canton made a game-changing play, returning the punt 90 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 31-21. Langham Creek fought back, reaching the red zone, but a missed field goal sealed their fate. With seven minutes remaining, Cy-Woods drained the clock, and in the final minute, Rogers threw his third touchdown to Cogdill. Canton’s interception in the closing moments secured Cy-Woods’ 38-21 victory, keeping their perfect record intact.
