Denton Ryan Dominates

The Denton Ryan Raiders were able to get a new winning streak started Thursday night with a 55-28 win over Denton High in Denton Thursday night.

The Raiders had their 60-game regular-season winning streak snapped a couple of weeks ago against Denton Guyer, but have now won two district games in a row.

Denton Ryan Dominates in 1st Quarter

The Raiders took care of busy early, as they stormed out to a 34-0 first-quarter lead.  Ryan quarterback Khalon Davis threw two touchdowns in the first, and running back Kalib Hicks continued his impressive season with another rushing touchdown.

In four games this season, Hicks has 7 touchdowns on the ground.  The three-star junior has several Power Five offers so far and will add to that throughout the season as his numbers increase.

For QB Davis, this was an important game.  In the Raiders’ previous three games, they’ve relied mostly on the run. Davis had big shoes to fill, replacing Seth Henigan, who’s currently the starter at Memphis.  Davis completed six passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns.

The Raiders know that in order to advance deep in the playoffs, they’ll need to have a more balanced attack.

Spreading the Ball Around

The Raiders got several players involved, as nine different players carried the ball, and seven different players caught passes. Backup QB Brody Quillin also saw significant time.

The Raiders (3-1, 2-0) now prepare for a surprising Frisco Wakeland team that will come to town next Thursday.

District 5-5A Division 1 is one of the toughest districts in the state, and the Raiders know they have to bring their “A” game each week in order to make another state title run.

Denton (0-4, 0-2) will try to get that elusive first win of the season next week against Frisco Heritage.
