Once again, Gary Patterson has struck gold in The Boot with Salmen (La.) cornerback Eddie Smith becoming the latest to commit to the TCU Horned Frogs on Friday evening.

A prospect well-regarded beyond his three-star ranking, Smith holds 21 total offers and committed to TCU over major programs such as Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Tennessee, among others.

Only eight days separated Smith’s June 8 top 10 and his June 16 commitment, but when an environment feels like home, there’s little reason to drag a recruitment out.

“The family environment and how bad the coaching staff wants me” Smith told 247Sports. “On top of that, the corner-back coach is really good and I feel like he can prepare me for the next level.”

“The campus is beautiful and when I visited, it felt like home,” Smith added.

With Smith now in the mix, TCU has four commits from Louisiana — a crop headlined by Parkway quarterback Justin Rogers — and four total defensive backs.

Smith is more than just a defensive back.

As a junior for Salmen, along with his 30 tackles, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown, Smith hauled in 11 receptions for 275 yards and five scores.

At 6’0, 178 pounds, Smith ranks as the nation’s No. 72 cornerback and the No. 42 player in Louisiana, per 247Sports Composite. TCU’s 2018 class now ranks No. 33 nationally and No. 6 in the Big 12.
