The annual Top 50 College Football Players Rankings for 2021 has been released by Pro Football Focus and eight players from the state of Texas made the cut. And of these eight players, five were from the Big 12, and one each from the SEC, the Big Ten, and the ACC.
#11 CB Trevius Hodges-Tomlinson, TCU:
Hodges-Tomlinson attended Midway High School in Waco, TX. He was named 2nd Team AP All-American and also 1st Team All-Big 12.
#18 DE DeMarvin Leal, Texas A&M:
Leal is an alum of Judson High School in Converse, TX. In 2020, Leal made 38 tackles, 2 sacks, and 5.5 tackles for loss.
#23 QB D’Eriq King, Miami:
King attended Manvel High School in Manvel, TX. He started out at Houston but transferred last season to the Hurricanes. In 2020, he passed for 2686 yards, 23 TDs, and 5 INTs. He also rushed for 538 yards and 4 TDs.
#26 Safety Brandon Joseph, Northwestern:
Joseph came to Northwestern out of College Station High School. In 2020, he made 6 INTs and 52 tackles and was a 1st Team AP All-American.
#40 RB Deuce Vaughn, Kansas State:
Vaughn is out of Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, TX. He rushed for 642 yards and seven touchdowns, along with 434 yards receiving and 2 TDs. Vaughn was named 2nd Team All-Big 12.
#42 RB Kennedy Brooks, Oklahoma:
Brooks went to Mansfield High School in Mansfield, TX. He sat out the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brooks rushed for 1011 yards and 6 TDs in 2019.
#46 CB Raleigh Texada, Baylor:
Texada was recruited out of Centennial High School in Frisco, TX. In 2020, he made 29 tackles, 1 sack, and 1.5 TFL’s. Texada also made 1 interception.
#50 Safety Tre Sterling, Oklahoma State:
Sterling attended Sunnyvale High School in Sunnyvale, TX. He made 74 tackles, 12 TFL’s, and 2 INTs (one returned for a touchdown).
