Ellison clinched a playoff spot with a thrilling 54-41 victory over Bryan Rudder on Thursday. Senior quarterback Sidney Holland Jr. led the Eagles, throwing for 372 yards and two touchdowns while adding 33 rushing yards and two more scores. The win secures Ellison’s place in second in the District 10-5A, Division II standings.
The Eagles took control early, with Maurice Mitchell’s 2-yard touchdown run giving Ellison the lead. Shortly after, Holland connected with Kai’Andre Sayles on an 87-yard touchdown pass, extending their advantage. By halftime, Ellison led 27-7, seemingly comfortable in their playoff-bound position.
Bryan Rudder stormed back, however, taking a 34-33 lead early in the fourth quarter after a 45-yard touchdown pass from Javyn Jessie to Jayden Erskine. The Rangers’ rally created tense moments for Ellison, but the Eagles responded.
Holland’s 6-yard rushing touchdown and a final score from Daryl Cannie secured the win. Cannie ended with 80 rushing yards and three total touchdowns, while Sayles led all receivers with 142 yards. Ellison will face Waco University in their final regular-season game.
