A Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer is coming back to kick off the college football season at AT&T Stadium. Running back Emmitt Smith will be one of two honorary captains for the AdvoCare Kickoff Classic between Michigan and Florida.
According to a release, the two captains will both represent their alma maters at the game. Smith will be representing the Florida Gators, while entrepreneur Tom Kartosis will represent Michigan. Kartosis is the founder of Fossil Group, the watch and accessories company based in the Dallas area.
Before his storied pro career, Smith was a star for the Florida Gators in the late 1980s. During his time in Gainesville, Smith rushed for 3,928 yards and 37 touchdowns which currently stand as the second-highest career totals in both categories in school history. After a stellar 15-year career with both the Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals, Smith was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010 on the first ballot. He remains the NFL’s All-Time leading rusher.
Smith will look forward to watching his Gators take on the Wolverines on Saturday. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm Central Time at AT&T Stadium on Saturday.
