Eagles soars to career day
Brennan Eagles posted a career day with 142 receiving yards in Texas’ 23-20 home loss to Iowa State on Saturday.
Texas (5-3, 4-3 Big 12) fell out of the latest Associated Press College Football Poll with the loss while Iowa State (7-2, 7-1) not only climbed one spot to No. 12, but took a step toward playing in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Eagles, a former Alief Taylor standout, caught a 59-yard reception on Texas’ opening drive to set up a Cameron Dicker (Austin Lake Travis) field goal that made it 3-0 Longhorns. His 18-yard reception helped set up a 17-yard rushing touchdown by Sam Ehlinger (Austin Westlake) that extended the Texas lead to 10-0 in the first quarter.
He was a U.S. Army All-American during his prep career at Alief Taylor.
Texas is holding on to it’s Big 12 Championship Game hopes. The Longhorns are one game behind No. 11 Oklahoma (6-2, 5-2) and No. 19 Oklahoma State (6-2, 5-2) for second place with two games remaining.
The Longhorns visit Kansas State (4-5, 4-4) on Saturday.
