UPDATE: Former Baylor head coach Art Briles will not be joining the coaching staff of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after all. On Monday, the Canadian Football League released a statement saying that Briles would not be joining June Jones’s staff “following a lengthy discussion” with the team.

ORIGINAL STORY: Former Baylor head coach Art Briles has been hired as an offensive assistant for the CFL’S Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The hiring of Briles was announced on Monday by the team.

It will be the first time Briles will be active in any coaching capacity since he was fired from Baylor 15 months ago amid the sexual assault scandal that shook Baylor down to its core and result in his dismissal. He coached in Waco from 2008 to 2015, posting 65-37 record and winning a share of back-to-back Big 12 titles in 2013 and 2014. He had reached a financial settlement with the school after his firing.
Briles will be joining the staff of former Hawaii and SMU head coach June Jones who was hired last week.
