Former Hempstead Defensive Standout with Big Game for Oklahoma

Article by Senior Writer, Albert Alvarado / Twitter: @Alvarado_Sports

Junior safety Delarrin Turner-Yell and the Oklahoma Sooners are returning to AT&T Stadium after Oklahoma shut down Baylor 27-14 on Saturday to earn a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

The former Hempstead standout made seven tackles and the stingy Oklahoma (7-2, 6-2 Big 12) held Baylor (2-6, 2-6) to just 288 yards of total offense. Oklahoma will be playing for the conference title for the fourth consecutive year.

The Sooners held their spot as the 11th-ranked team in the Associated Press College Football Poll.

Turner-Yell was one of the most sought after defensive back coming out of high school and chose Oklahoma over Houston, Nebraska and Utah.

Oklahoma visits West Virginia (5-4, 4-4) at 11 a.m. Saturday on ABC.

Oklahoma and No. 10 Iowa State (8-2, 8-1) will play for the conference title at 11 a.m. Dec. 19 on ABC. The Cyclones beat the Sooners 37-30 on Oct. 3.
