It was the Jason Shelley to Jaylen Dixon show in Lone Star’s 5A Bi-District Region 2 Division II win over Little Elm 48-9. The two Utah commits were responsible for the first two touchdowns of the game; 24-yard and 60-yard touchdown passes.

“It’s hard to keep coming up with adjectives to describe Jason (Shelley) and JD (Jaylen Dixon) but we are going to use every last ounce of their senior years,” Lone Star head coach Jeff Rayburn said. “We are going to keep finding ways to give them the ball and let them do what they do because they are special.”

The Lone Star defense was able to shut down the Little Elm offense. Allowing 290 yards on the evening and only letting the Lobo’s into the red zone on one drive in the first half and only once more before the starters were pulled.

“That’s what are defense has done the entire year, just played hard and tackle well and we continued that tonight. Nothing to complain about with their performance tonight.” Rayburn said.

The story throughout tonight was Jason Shelley who was responsible for seven of the Rangers touchdowns. On his fourth rushing TD, (7 total) Shelley needed help as he was being helped off the field. Shelley is what makes Lone Star go, so if they want to make it to the state title game for the second consecutive year, they will need their QB healthy.

“Jason (Shelley) will be good to go for next week. He’s a tough kid and we were going to take him out on the next drive anyways he just happened to get a tad banged up on the last play.” Rayburn said.

“We played well tonight everyone did their part and he threw great balls,” Dixon said of his future college teammate. “They were in man a lot tonight and when they are man I just ran and I was able to do that and make some plays and have a good day.” Dixon finished the night with 202 yards on six catches and two touchdowns and had 170 yards in the first half.

Lone Star will play their area matchup against Mesquite Poteet at Allen Eagle Stadium on Friday November 18th time is TBA.
