A Look Back: China Spring vs. Lampasas
Head Coach Brian Bell was pleased with what he saw from his team after halftime. Regarding the closest score at the half for the Cougars, a 17-7 lead, Coach Bell said, “We challenged the kids to see what kind of character we have as a football team. They answered the bell by scoring points and getting turnovers on defense.”
With 30 unanswered points in the second half, China Spring showed their character and responded well.
Inside the China Spring Cougars
Sophomore Kyle Barton has been turning heads for quite a while. “I remember him in the 7th grade and every time he touched the ball he scored a touchdown”, Bell says of Barton. The Cougar running back has 459 total yards and seven touchdowns through four games. Senior Brayden Faulkner is the leader of the defense. According to Bell, Faulkner “is physical, nasty and plays fast and off the field, he is a phenomenal young man and straight-A student. That’s everything you want in a middle linebacker.”
With 17 tackles and one sack and one interception, Faulkner complements the intangibles with great play.
China Spring Offense vs Black Cat Defense
Coach Bell states that the offensive line must be solid against the Black Cat defensive line. The Black Cat defensive line has big, strong, fast kids that can exploit mistakes.
With great speed in the secondary, the outside receivers must stay disciplined on the perimeter blocking and run good routes.
China Spring Defense vs Black Cat Offense
Giving up only 14 points per game, the Cougar defense looks to continue its dominance over opposing offenses. The defensive line, linebackers, and secondary are all strong for the Cougars. They look to dictate what the offense does.
Mexia is scoring just 19 points per game on offense.
