Just days after landing a pair of simultaneous pledges from elite 2018 prospects in Cy Springs safety Leon O’Neal Jr. and Katy Taylor defensive end Max Wright, Texas A&M received similar welcomed news on Monday with 2019 St. Pius X products Grant Gunnell and Chase Lane committing to the Aggies.

Gunnell, a four-star gunslinger, is pegged as one of 2019’s premier prospects and has the offer list to show it. Ranked as the nation’s No. 54 player, No. 2 pro-style quarterback and the No. 5 player in Texas, per 247Sports, Gunnell holds 32 offers to date, including invitations from Florida State, LSU, Nebraska, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Oregon, among numerous others.
Lane, on the other hand, held just one offer from the Aggies, but it turns out that his Texas A&M invitation was the only one he needed.
A three-star pass-catcher, Lane ranks as the nation’s No. 315 player, No. 48 wide receiver and the No. 51 player in Texas, per 247Sports.
Not only does Texas A&M now have its first two 2019 pledges on board, but each hail from the Houston-area, which is always a fertile recruiting ground and being able to win Houston often means winning a respective cycle among the competition in Texas and Louisiana.
Kevin Sumlin and his staff have took a significant step towards that goal on Monday by earning commitments from St. Pius X teammates Gunnell and Lane.
