Washington State and Houston have faced each other three times in the past with Washington State holding a 2-1 advantage all-time. The two met for the first time back in 1959 which saw Washington State win 32-18. Houston took the second game in 1966 with a 21-7 victory and the most recent game, the 1988 Aloha Bowl, resulted in favor of Washington State 24-22. Houston played host in the games prior to the Aloha Bowl.
Houston has also scheduled another home-and-home series with North Texas with the dates set on Sept. 28, 2019 in Denton and Sept. 23, 2023 in Houston. That series is tied at seven a piece.
