The Katy Tigers (5-0) hosted the Tompkins Falcons (5-0) on Friday night in a pivotal district matchup at Legacy Stadium. Tompkins came into Friday night looking to beat Katy for the second straight season, as last year the Falcons ended the Tigers 75-district game winning streak with a 24-19 win.

As for Katy, they no doubt had revenge on their mind and looked to make a statement victory.

And the Tigers did exactly that. After a slow first quarter, the Tigers scored 35 points in the second quarter alone. That second quarter was a showcase for Tigers’ QB Caleb Koger, who passed for 254 yards and 5 touchdowns…in the first half.

The final two minutes of the 2nd quarter in particular had probably enough drama for the entire game. The Falcons’ QB Cole Francis fumbled a snap and gave up the ball, and Katy scored on the very next play, on a 45-yard Koger touchdown pass to senior WR Nic Anderson.

To the House

On the ensuing kickoff, the Falcons return man WR Joshua McMillan took the kickoff to the house for an impressive 108 yard TD, his second touchdown of the evening.

The Falcons looked to take some momentum into the half, but they left too much time on the clock. Koger found Nic Anderson again over the top for 53 yards and a score. The Tigers went into the locker room with a 42-14 lead.

Katy Defense Dominates in 2nd half

Katy continued to overwhelm Tompkins with a stifling defense and surgical offense. On the Falcons’ opening possession of the 2nd half, they faced a 4th and goal from the 3-yard line to keep themselves in the game.

Senior DL Cayde Robertson came up with the big stop, and just about killed the Falcons hope of a comeback. On the Tigers’ next possession, Seth Davis ran it 66 yards for a touchdown and extended the Tigers lead to 49-14.

Katy closed out the ball game on the ground and got the 56-21 victory. Katy’s stars showed up big in this one, as Caleb Koger finished with 331 yards passing and 5 TDs and Seth Davis rushed for over 200 yards and a pair of TDs.

Katy looks to continue to dominate district play as they take on Mayde Creek next Friday.
