Knights Stay Undefeated with 42-9 Win

Round Rock Hail Roof Inspection

On September 29th, 2023, I went to watch The Episcopal Knights (6-0) vs. The Episcopal School of Dallas Eagles (3-2), otherwise known as ESD. They are two strong teams in their district and both episcopal schools. With that in mind and Episcopal’s rank skyrocketing, I was looking forward to this game.

Episcopal received the 1st kickoff! Episcopal could not score off the 1st drive and had to punt it to ESD. Within a series of plays, ESD got up close and kicked a field goal, getting on the scoreboard 1st with a score of 3-0. Episcopal could not score again. ESD got the ball back, and #23 Brooks Edwards, Episcopal’s outside linebacker, caught an interception and took it to the house for a pick-six.

With under 3 minutes in the 1st quarter, Episcopal got the ball back on a bad ESD punt and quarterback #14 Karson Gordon ran a QB sneak for a touchdown. End of the 1st quarter, the score is now 14-3, with The Knights in the lead. ESD, early in the 2nd quarter, kicked another field goal. Episcopal has the ball, and running back #1 Brandon Thomas had a tremendous run for a 50-yard touchdown. With under a minute left in the quarter, Karson Gordon broke out of a large pit and ran a 41-yard touchdown. The score at halftime is 28-6.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, ESD receives the kickoff, but all they can do against The Knights’ defense is kick a 3rd field goal. Besides that field goal, the scoreboard remained unchanged in the 3rd quarter. Now we’re in the 4th and last quarter. Unfortunately, Gordon suffered an injury and The Knights didn’t have a backup quarterback so they lined up Brandon Thomas in wildcat formation. Once they did that, ESD’s defense had no way of stopping or reading Thomas’ run routes and he scored in a couple of plays with a 55-yard touchdown. Before the end of the game, Thomas scored one more touchdown through the wildcat formation and the final score was 42-9 with The Knights staying undefeated.

This was an excellent game for The Episcopal Knights. Even though he got injured, Karson Gordon is a superb quarterback. He is great on slants and post passes. Long distance is not a problem for him either and he is not afraid to run it. Brandon Thomas is an outstanding running back supporting The Knights by scoring three touchdowns. On defense, linebacker Brooks Edwards was involved in the action the whole game, making a ton of tackles and scoring a pick six, which gave Episcopal the necessary momentum to start the game right.

The Episcopal Knights have a big district game against The St. John Mavericks (5-1). These two are the top private school teams in Houston. This is a matchup that you won’t want to miss.
