Last-Minute Field Goal Lifts Highland Park

On Friday, 11/17, in a second-round playoff matchup, the Highland Park Scots took on the McKinney Lions at at SMU’s Ford Stadium.

The Lions started off hot as Jeremiah Daoud completed 6 of 14 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Daoud connected with Khristian Mackintrush on 2 receptions for 56 yards, scoring once, and Makhi Frazier, who had a single reception for a 23-yard touchdown. With some movement in the air, the Lions did some damage on the ground as Bryan Jackson rushed for 84 yards, scoring once, and Sincere Blakely gained 17 yards on his 1 carry.

With being down 21-6 at the half, Highland Park Quarterback Parker Thompson came out, completed 10 of 18 passes for 148 yards, and rushed for 22 yards. Thompson connected with Keller Holmes on 3 passes for 59 yards, Wilson Axley, who totaled 55 yards on 4 catches, and Brian Rapp, who had a lone 31-yard reception. The Scots did what they needed to on the ground as Keller Holmes rushed for 2 touchdowns on 16 carries totaling 38 yards, and Wilson Axley ended the night with 11 carries for 34 yards. 

The game came down to the final drive as Highland Park drove their way down the field to get into field goal range.  As the kick was taken it was deflected off a Lionsdefender’ss hand, but it still had enough power to make it through the uprights, giving the Scots the win. 

Highland Park pulls out a nail biter 22-21.

Next week the Scots will travel to Choctaw Stadium in Arlington to take on the Southlake Carroll Dragons, who are coming off a dominant 49-14 win over Frenship.
