The position serves as a liaison between the team and the state’s high school football coaches. Basically, the role of the Burn Orange is to keep Texas HS Football prospects in the state. The position also takes recruits around on-campus visits.
“We’re really excited that Jahmal is joining our staff,” coach Steve Sarkisian said in a press release. “He’s a guy who brings a lot to the table, is well known, and respected throughout the Texas High School Coaches Association, has deep roots in Austin, and is so well connected in our community, as well as across the state.”
Fenner comes to the team after Chris Gilbert left the role for an associate head coach/tight ends position with North Texas under Texas HS Football mainstay Eric Morris. Vet Lone Star State coach Bob Shipley also served time in the role.
After taking over LBJ in 2018, coach Fenner led the team for five years, including the program’s first berth in the 2021 Class 4A Division I title game. Overall, coach Fenner accounted for a 49-13 record with 11 playoff victories.
