Littlefield ISD Coach Jimmy Thomas Abruptly Succumbs To Illness
Littlefield ISD Athletic Director and head football coach Jimmy Thomas has passed away.
Thomas was allegedly suffering from bilateral blood clots in both lungs. He was still Tweeting on Monday morning and abruptly succumbed to his brief illness shortly after his last post.
Littlefield ISD superintendent Mike Read released the following statement:
“Although he constantly strove to create winning athletic programs at LISD, he worked equally hard to use those programs to build students of good character. His presence will be hugely missed by the District’s students, his fellow teachers and coaches, and the entire Littlefield school community.”
Thomas was hired as Littlefield’s football coach and AD on February 2021. He was the first external head coaching hire for the program since 1970.
A Fritch native and West A&M graduate, he led his former employer Bushland Falcons to a 47-25 record over six seasons, including a Class 4A Division II state quarterfinals appearance (2017) and a Class 3A Division I regional round finish (2019).
Thomas’s passing marks the second high school head football coach in the region who has died suddenly within the last week; Anton coach Matt Hoover always passed earlier this month.
