Lubbock Monterey Dominates Lubbock High
It was the opening night of district play between the Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen and the Lubbock High Westerners. Monterey manhandled Lubbock High 62-7 to get their first district win of the season.
Lubbock Monterey Destroys Lubbock High
The Plainsmen defense forced a Westerners turnover on Lubbock High’s first offensive drive of the game. In just one play, Monterey’s senior running back Trent White scored on a 39-yard run giving the Plainsmen an early 7-0 lead in the game.
Monterey’s defense forced the Westerners’ offense to punt again on their next drive. Plainsmen quarterback, DJ Williams found an open Lawens Mann for a 39-yard touchdown pass making the score 14-0.
Monterey’s next offensive drive culminated with a deep pass from Williams to wide receiver Hewbrew Hunter for a 77-yard touchdown, giving the Plainsmen a 21-0 lead midway through the 1st quarter.
The Lubbock Monterey Defense Steps Up
Monterey’s defense made it difficult for the Westerners’ offense to get going and forced a punt. In just one play, White took the hand-off and found a hole in the Westerners’ defense, and raced down the field for an 80-yard touchdown. Monterey extended their lead 27-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Lubbock High’s offense scored on their 1st possession of the 2nd quarter after an 11-play 91-yard drive. Westerners’ quarterback Jonathan Cisneros threw a dart to wide receiver Cameron Guerrero for a 12-yard score, making the score 27-7.

The Plainsmen’s next offensive drive needed only one play again. White got loose for a 59-yard touchdown run and extended their lead to 34-7.
The Plainsmen defense forced a punt once more on the Westerners’ next offensive drive. Williams found sophomore receiver, Kashious Lewis, for a 12-yard touchdown to extend their lead to 41-7 late in the 1st half.
Monterey went into halftime with a 41-7 lead. Running back Trent White rushed for 202 yards on five rushing attempts in the 1st half. Williams was seven for eight passing attempts with 177 passing yards and three touchdown passes in the 1st half.
Lubbock Monterey shuts out the Westerners in 2nd half
Monterey’s offense would be the only one to find the end-zone in the 2nd half. Williams would laser it to Hunter for a 39-yard touchdown pass.
Plainsmen running back, Giovanni Cleveland got in on the scoring and score the final two touchdowns of the game. One came in late in the 3rd quarter with a 16-yard run. The other came in the 4th quarter on a 64-yard run.
Monterey’s defense did not let the Westerners’ offense find any rhythm in the 2nd half.

Monterey won its first district game of the season.
The Plainsmen improved to 3-2 overall in the season and 1-0 in district play. Monterey travels to Amarillo next Thursday night to take on the Amarillo High Sandies in another district game.
Lubbock High fell to a 1-4 record and looks to get their first district next Thursday night when they host the Amarillo Tascosa Rebels.
