On Friday, September 3, an intense rivalry will play out on the field at CH Collins Stadium:
Denton Guyer Wildcats
The Wildcats were 11-3 in 2020 and made it to the state semifinals, losing 27-17 to Cedar Hill. 14 starters returned from that team.
Last Week: Denton Guyer vs Hebron
Guyer scored 28 unanswered points in the first half and never looked back as they cruised to a 46-17 win to open the season.
Guyer QB Jackson Arnold, in his first start, was 16 of 27 passing for 167 yards and a touchdown. He also added 58 yards on the ground and another score.
Hebron gained only 12 yards of offense in the first half, stymied on every play by a ball-hawking Wildcat defense.
With the loss, the Hawks fell to 0-5 against Guyer over the last decade.
Denton Ryan Raiders
The Raiders are the defending 5A state champs and they returned 14 starters this season. Ryan won the 2020 5A-Div. I state title with a 59-14 win over Cedar Park. They gained 527 yards of total offense and held Cedar Park scoreless in the 4th quarter.
They are ranked #6 in the texashsfootball.com Top 25 for Week 2 of the 2021 season.
Last Week: Denton Ryan vs Longview
The Raiders won 40-7 on the strength of 139 yards rushing and three touchdowns from RB Kalib Hicks, and a defense that played lights out. The Raider defense forced five Longview turnovers and the special team unit scored two touchdowns.
The Raider defense was led by MarQuice Hill, who racked up nine tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. LB Anthony Hill recorded 12 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble.
Other players to watch are 4-star prospect WR/RB Austin Jordan and QB Khalon Davis.
Denton Ryan won last year’s matchup 23-20. Prior to that, the two teams had not played each other since 2015.
