NFL SCOUTING COMBINE: Former La Grange star JK Dobbins looks to continue tradition of great Texas RBs

Former Texas high school football stars will have the most important job interview of their careers this week at the NFL Combine.

In the second of four stories, TexasHSfootball.com takes a look at these prospects leading up to the combine

The NFL Combine resumes Friday with running backs, offensive linemen, specialists and place kickers taking over Lucas Oil Stadium to showcase their skills.

Here are some former Texas high school stars that are looking to improve their draft stocks or find a home at the combine.

J.K. Dobbins, La Grange, Ohio State RB
Dobbins was named a Doak Walker Award finalist after rushing for an Ohio State record 2,003 yards last season, including 174 against Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The junior finished with two first place votes in the final Heisman Trophy voting and was named a 2019 Associated Press Second Team All-American.
He finishes his career at Ohio State with 4,459 yards and 38 touchdowns on 725 carries. Dobbins was a La Grange legacy and helped the school two playoff appearances following in the footsteps of his father who was a member of La Grange’s 1997 state semifinal team.

Jamycal Hasty, Longview, Baylor Running Back
Hasty had 109 rushes for 627 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019 to help the Bears reach the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time in school history.
Hasty was an all-state honorable mention as a junior at Longview.

Patrick Taylor, Humble Atascocita, Memphis Running Back
Taylor contributed to a season where the Tigers finished No. 17 in the final Associated Press poll.
The former Atascocita star had 350 yards and five scores on 78 carries in 2019. Taylor was a three-year letterman at Atascocita.

Michael Turk, Ridge Point, Arizona State Punter
Turk averaged 46 yards per punt on 59 attempts for the Sun Devils this season. He was a part of consecutive regional championship teams in high school.

Braden Mann, Cypress Fair, Texas A&M Punter
Mann had three punts for an average of 43.3 yards in his final season in Aggieland. He was a two-time All-district 7-6A selection at Cy Fair.

Jet Anderson, Richmond George Ranch, TCU Running Back
Anderson rushed for 823 yards and six scores on 151 attempts for the Horned Frogs this season and earned a Big 12 All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2017.
Anderson was a part of Richmond George Ranch’s 2015 state championship team.

Cordel Iwuagwu, Houston Westfield, TCU Offensive Lineman
Iwuagwu played in 39 games during his collegiate career in Fort Worth. He was a District 15-6A first team selection at Westfield.

Sewo Olonilua, Kingwood, TCU Running Back
Olonilua finished with 1,624 yards and 18 touchdowns in his collegiate career as a Horned Frog, including 537 yards and eight scores in 2019.
He was a U.S. Army All-American at Kingwood.

Terence Steele, Cibolo Steele, Texas Tech Offensive Lineman
Steele started 10 games for the Red Raiders in 2019. Steele was ranked as a 3-star prospect by both ESPN and Rivals coming out of high school.

Hakeem Adeniji, Garland, Kansas Offensive Lineman
Phil Steele selected Adeniji as an all-conference preseason first teamer and also made Athlon’s preseason second team prior to the 2019 season.
He helped Garland make three straight postseason appearances.
