Waxahachie
Jalen Reagor has the Indians running at a higher tempo than anyone expected them to. We all knew Waxahachie would be good, but wins over Highland Park, Ennie, and Mansfield Summit have shown us that Waxahachie isn’t just here to upset a few teams and move on. They’re a real threat to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Lubbock Cooper
Jarrett Doege and Ty Thomas, two Lubbock legacies, have the Pirates moving right along. They thrashed Lubbock Frenship, generally one of the top teams in the area, and they’ve only given up 21 points through 3 1/2 games (their opener against Amarillo High was called at halftime). If the Pirates can peak at the right time, there’s no telling where they’ll end up.
Frisco High
Everyone knows about Jason Shelley and Frisco Lone Star, but the Frisco High Raccoons have snuck up on everyone this year. They’re squaring off against Lone Star next Friday, and a win puts them in the district 13-5A driver’s seat.
College Station
CSHS has slowly been creeping into the discussion as district play begins. They struggled a bit against a 1-3 Pflugerville team (that has a fantastic defense) on the road, but this is a team that’s really capable of doing big things in the playoffs.
Lovejoy
Don’t be fooled by the 1-3 record. So far, Lovejoy has played Argyle (4-0), beaten Frisco Wakeland (3-1), lost to Frisco Lone Star (3-1), and lost to Highland Park (3-1) by a score of 27-20. Don’t be surprised if this team catches fire down the stretch in district play. They’ve played four playoff teams so far, three of them being state title contenders. They’ve got the experience in tough games, now it needs to transfer into wins.
New Caney Porter
They’re only 2-0 on the season, and they beat Crosby without Mannie Netherly, but the New Caney Porter Spartans have a good shot at running the district table if they can beat Splendora and Humble. Time will tell if the Spartans are for real, but this win over Crosby might propel them into being a contender.
Frisco vs Lone Star is next week – Sept. 30th
Thanks, I missed that when I was looking up schedules.
