Panthers Standout Has State Champion Roots

If you get an opportunity, make the most of it.

DeSoto’s Laviska Shenault Jr. was active for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, for the first time since the team acquired him in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 29. Shenault Jr. made his moment count, responding by earning a team-high 90 receiving yards and a touchdown.

All of this… on just two catches.

The highlight: a 67-yard dash to the end zone to seal the Panthers 22-14 victory over the Saints.

Shenault was part of DeSoto’s first-ever state championship victory, defeating Steele in 2016. He was responsible for a team-leading 104 yards and one score. In total, his senior year, he posted 46 receptions for 825 yards and nine touchdowns. After graduating, he attended Colorado, where he totaled 145 career receptions for 1,900 yards and 11 touchdowns. He currently ranks 8th in career receptions at his alma mater.
